Cincinnati Reds troll Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott
After Ezekiel Elliott said he’d be wearing a Cardinals hat when the Reds play the Pirates Tuesday, the Reds trolled the Ohio State back hard on Twitter.
Running back Ezekiel Elliott has done a lot for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the state as a whole, but one thing he can’t do is become a Cincinnati Reds fan. Elliott announced on his Twitter Tuesday that he will be attending the Reds game against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, where he will throw out the first pitch along with Ohio State teammates, but he won’t be wearing a Reds hat.
C’mon Ezekiel, you know that’s just going to make your Buckeye fans angry. But, Elliott is originally from the city of St. Louis, MO and he’s clearly been a strong St. Louis Cardinals fan his whole life. How could you not? The Cardinals have been to the playoffs 11 times since 2000 and have won two World Series titles in that span.
Well, the Cincinnati Reds none to happy about Elliott’s choice in MLB teams, decided they would troll Elliott brilliantly on Twitter after his decision to wear a NL Central foe’s hat to their game on Wednesday:
If Elliott won’t change to become a Cincinnati Reds fan, the Reds will make him one even if it involves using Photoshop. After the grief Elliott received on Twitter, he wanted fans to know there’s no disrespect and that he needs to represent the city that he’s originally from and also let them know that at least he reps Ohio State in St. Louis.
Ezekiel Elliott became one of the most popular names in sports this past year after he helped lead Ohio State to win the first ever College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes were led by Elliott’s rushing game in the Big Ten Championship after his 220 yards and two touchdowns led Ohio State to a 59-0 statement win over Wisconsin and secured a bid into the inaugural College Football Playoff.
In the Sugar Bowl against Alabama, Elliott continued to shine finishing with 230 yards on the ground and two more touchdowns helping Ohio State to win 42-35 and move on to the National Championship game against Oregon. Elliott had his best game against the Ducks when he rushed for an astounding 246 yards and four touchdowns as the Buckeyes won the championship 42-20.
Elliott will likely play his last season with the Buckeyes next year as a junior before he dives into the NFL Draft where teams will be itching to draft the speedy running back.
While Elliott refuses to adjust into a new fan base in Ohio with the Reds, it shouldn’t matter as he’ll be cheered on regardless of his hat choice when he and his fellow champions throw out the first pitch Wednesday.
