Playing a chilly day game at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, the Cubs’ Jorge Soler looked like he was fighting in Mortal Kombat.

The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals had two days off between the opening game of the regular season Sunday night on ESPN and today’s matinee action. Tuesday’s game was rained out, despite no rain actually hitting the surface of Wrigley Field on Tuesday.

Temperatures were quite frigid, however, as is customary for this time of year in the Windy City. Temperatures remained nearly arctic on Wednesday afternoon after the NL Central rivals resumed the season and their series.

Temperatures were listed at 53 degrees at 3:15 PM CT, but that was almost two hours past first pitch. Even so, the skies were overcast and a wind chill surrounded the stadium which created quite the frigid atmosphere.

Somehow Cubs starter Jake Arrieta pitched throughout the day with no sleeves–and pitched phenomenally well.

But one Cub, 23-year-old Cuban born outfielder Jorge Soler, did not embrace the frigid temperatures in quite the same manner.

Soler really does look more like a Mortal Kombat character than baseball player in that photo. Apparently he was inspired in a similar manner as well, as he recorded the Cubs’ first hit of the afternoon–a sixth inning triple which he lined past Cardinals centerfielder Jon Jay, who litearlly had no time to react because the ball was hit so hard.

The Cubs led Game two of the season and series versus the Cardinals 2-0 headed to the bottom of the eighth inning.
