Tre McBride is a highly athletic prospect from the small school of William & Mary. McBride won’t be on the radar of a lot of dynasty owners until after the NFL Draft, because he’s a player not many people are familiar with. McBride is going to be more relevant in fantasy once he gets selected in the NFL Draft because dynasty owners are going to be familiar with him after he gets his 30 second player spotlight on ESPN after he gets selected by his NFL team.
College Production
McBride didn’t break out until his sophomore year of college (age 20) where he caught 55 receptions for 897 yards and 10 TDs. During his junior season (age 21) he reeled in 63 receptions for 801 yards and 5 TDs. McBride capped off his college career by bringing in 64 receptions for 809 yard and 4 TDs during his senior year (age 22). During McBride’s senior season he accounted for 20.85% of William and Mary’s offensive production, 39.20% of their receiving yards, and 16.15% of William and Mary’s total touchdowns. McBride’s college production isn’t very impressive at first glance, but he was very productive when you take in account the total market share he had for William & Mary’s offensive output. William and Mary wasn’t an offensive powerhouse, and they are a run heavy offensive unit. McBride didn’t get the opportunities like a lot of receivers to have a large stat line. This is where market share is important because it gives you an outline of how important McBride was to his team and how much of a focal point he actually was for his offense. For being a part of a run heavy offensive attack, being able to consume 20% of the offensive production is very impressive.

What makes McBride a sexy prospect is his athletic upside. He is comparable to Amari Cooper and Sammy Watkins, two of the better prospects to come out in the last few years. He has good size at 6’0 210 pounds, and decent speed to go with his size, with a 4.41 40-time. McBride ran a 6.98 for his 3-cone, which demonstrates that he has the capabilities to get in and out of his breaks and be a good route runner.
Film Review
McBride does a lot of positive things. He’s very good at getting in and out of his breaks. McBride is a decent route runner for a player coming from a small school. He’s not the best route runner, he can’t run a full route tree, but he looks very good compared to a lot of small school wide receivers. He has very good hands. He has the ability to catch difficult passes away from his body. McBride is very dangerous with the ball after the catch, because he’s very fast and has the ability to move latterly very swiftly. The down side to him is that he’s a little bit raw on his route running and he doesn’t have a dominate presence around the end zone. The major question with McBride is can he translate his game from playing at a smaller school to playing in the NFL, and how quickly can he do it?
Player Value
There’s a very good chance that he’s going to be drafted in the top-100 of the NFL Draft, and if not in the top-100 then he’s not going to be too far off from it. I can see him being drafted anywhere from the 3rd to the 5th round. McBride is going to be the perfect upside draft pick in your rookie draft, because he doesn’t have the pedigree coming from a big school, but he does have the athletic upside that could hit for your dynasty team. McBride is going to be drafted anywhere between the mid-2nd to the mid-3rd in dynasty drafts. Once you hit the early-mid 2nd round of your rookie draft then the odds of your draft picks hitting are very slim, so drafting McBride in the 2nd round is the perfect pick if you want to swing for the fences and go strictly for upside. I like McBride a lot and I plan to own him on a lot of my dynasty teams, and there’s a good possibility if he gets drafted to the right team that I might be pulling the trigger on him in the early 2nd round.
