The Chicago White Sox rode their players onto the field in style in their home opener Friday.

The Chicago White Sox had quite the grand home opener at US Cellular Field on Friday, including having their players enter the field in sporty and elegant vehicles, in what they dubbed the “Ford ride around”.

The plan was known in advance, because the team’s website previewed the entrance, along with the other pre-game ceremonies, earlier Friday.

Players rode into the stadium in the back of Ford pickup trucks, and Mustangs. American League Rookie of the Year Jose Abreu rode into the stadium in the back of a Ford F350.

Players came in one by one. As this photo shows many of the White Sox already standing on the home side’s third base line waiting for their teammates.

Meanwhile the team paid tribute to “Minnie” Minoso, former White Sox Hall of Famer, who passed away on March 1. Shortstop Alexei Ramirez, like Minoso, of Cuba, wore Minoso’s No. 9 jersey to honor his countryman. The White Sox also honored Chicago baseball great “Mr. Cub” Ernie Banks–as did the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

And former White Sox ace Jose Contreras threw out the first pitch.

But as emotional and full of grandeur as the opening ceremonies were Friday afternoon on the South Side of Chicago, the results were no better on their return home, as the White Sox were shut out by their Al Central rivals, the Minnesota Twins, 6-0.
