Washington Wizards’ John Wall is not voting for new NBAPA Players Choice Awards.

The NBA players association announced on Tuesday that they were going to host a NBAPA Players Choice Awards at Las Vegas Summer League this year. The awards would include MVP and be voted on by players. As much as Kevin Durant has shown vigor for this notion, John Wall couldn’t be more disinterested via New York Post

"“No,” John Wall said when asked if he had voted yet, “and I probably won’t.”"

Wall said it didn’t matter to him and it was more for those on the outside looking in.

"“As basketball players, we know who the players are, but sometimes your pride and ego come in and you don’t want to see that person get an award, so it don’t really bother me.“[With] us making votes, you’re going to have people saying they are MVP and the best player in the league, and so it’s never going to be a fair race, in my opinion.”"

It may seem tone deaf to maybe other players that are taking this a little more serious, like LeBron James who said he’d vote for himself. On the other hand, it is refreshing to hear something contrary to expectation. He just shouldn’t expect Michelle Roberts to be running to high five him anytime soon.

The issue is that the layers of things that transpire on a court are seemingly indecipherable to fans and will be a factor in player voting. It is like watching the winner of a cooking show that made a dish in a style that you have never tried, using ingredients you never tasted.

Of course, the flip side to this conundrum is that maybe the media isn’t the only authority on this matter. It is probably more true that they are simply just a part of the whole picture. Moving from simply an idealistic notion, there is the concrete issue that there is cold hard cash on the line. There are monetary bonuses for awards that are completely dictated by media.

At least at this point there is another opinion out there and the discussions can be more varied.
