Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA

Some have UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley as a borderline 1st round/2nd round selection, but a team who selected him there would be making a horrible mistake.

Hundley looks the part and has tremendous athletic ability, but is far more raw than any second round selection should be. During his tenure at UCLA, he took almost every snap from shotgun and as a result, Hundley has struggled under center. It will take time to get used to it, if he ever does. That alone is a tremendous risk.

At UCLA, Hundley also made a lot of his reads pre-snap—adjusting after the fact is not his strong point, and that’s a huge issue. Being able to ‘make all the throws’ only matters when you can make reads and Hundley struggles with that. He doesn’t handle pressure in the pocket all that well either and has a tendency to pull the ball down too quickly and run even when he could dodge once and then find a receiver.
