When it came time to do my research and decide who I wanted to label as my Fantasy Rookie of the Year really only two names did the trick for me this year. Jabari Parker was a shoe-in for mine and probably for the NBA ROY, but an unfortunate injury curtailed that. So here we are in April and looking at Nikola Mirotic and Andrew Wiggins of course.

Probably for most normal fans this would be a hands down vote for Andrew Wiggins, but there is something special about Nikola Mirotic’s game. As many of you know I am a Chicago Bulls fan and so for the past few years I have had to endure years of taunting including people saying that Mirotic would never join the Bulls and if he ever does he will never live up the hype that surrounds him.

I will say that ‘Niko’ has silenced the larger contingency of naysayers and become an integral part of the Bulls offense. For the Bulls to be as deep as they are in the back court, Mirotic has been a tremendous contributor to the Bulls’ offense. Nikola Mirotic also stepped up when Taj Gibson was injured for an extended stretch and provided numbers that probably could have landed him the honors of this award and the NBA ROY award had he been able to get that kind of run all season.

As it is though, I will have to say it is hard to argue with giving my Fantasy Rookie of the Year award to none other than: Andrew Wiggins. Nikola Mirotic has provided the Bulls with lots of energy and intangibles, but when it comes down to it those kinds of things don’t win fantasy basketball leagues. Nothing but stats and pure numbers win fantasy basketball championships. So I send a great big thanks and congratulations to Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves on this heralded award and wish much more success to him in the future.

I will also say you might want to buy into both Nikola Mirotic and Andrew Wiggins in your keeper and dynasty leagues as both guys have proven that they are legitimate NBA stars and are here to stay.
