Revisionist History: I shouldn’t have watched the Knicks

By: Myles Ma (@MylesMaNJ)

Let me be clear: I love the Knicks. But this season was not good television. Even before Carmelo Anthony went down, the Knickerbockers were among the worst teams in the league, struggling to figure out the Triangle Offense and the Any Shape Whatsoever Defense.

The New York Times announced on Jan. 6 they were giving beat writer Scott Cacciola a sabbatical from the Knicks. “He deserves to see the game at a higher level,” the paper said. So did I, I realized.

Since that point, I’ve watched maybe three Knicks games, including my first trip to the Garden, in a game against the lowly Timberwolves. Instead, I’ve witnessed Russell Westbrook’s furious straight-line drives, Stephen Curry’s quick-strike snake-bite shooting and James Harden’s methodical dominance. I’ve watched workaday guys like Robin Lopez crashing through the paint over and over again for rebounds, flawed but brilliant Elfrid Payton mustering an ill-fitting Magic offense, towering Rudy Gobert collecting nicknames.

I should have stopped watching the Knicks in November.
