Russell Westbrook just won the NBA scoring title and he is almost nearly speechless. In fact, he had just one word to say on the topic.

It has been a tough season for the Oklahoma City Thunder, missing out on the playoffs for the first time in six years. Head coach Scott Brooks’ job is apparently in jeopardy, Kevin Durant has been injured all year and Russell Westbrook has had to put the team on his back.

Westbrook has had the season of his life and many could argue that if the Thunder has ended up making the playoffs as an eight seed, he would have been NBA MVP.

I think it’s pretty clear that all Russell wants to do is win the NBA title instead of an MVP, but he won a different title on Wednesday evening. After a 37-point outburst in the team’s season finale, Westbrook locked up the NBA scoring title over former teammate James Harden, averaging an impressive 28.1 points per contest.

After the game, and finding out the Thunder missed the playoffs due to a tie-breaker with the Pelicans, he was not happy with anything.

An always-candid Westbrook was asked by a reporter what the scoring title means to him and he responded, ā€œSh*t. It doesn’t mean nothing. Good job. Hooray. I’m at home, watching other teams play. It doesn’t mean nothing.ā€

Here’s the video with some NSFW language.

In Russell’s defense, that’s a terrible time to ask what a scoring title means to a guy. I mean, he just found out his team missed out on the playoffs and he will be spending the rest of the next two months watching other teams play for an NBA title while he’s sitting at home.

Getting healthy is one thing that the Thunder need to do this offseason to be back in contention for a title next year.

As for Westbrook, this one has to sting a little bit. He just put up a monster performance in the team’s season finale, winning the game by 25 points only to find out that New Orleans also won their game and will be playing for an NBA title, despite having the same record overall.

I’m not sure if the reporter was trying to get this type of response out of Russell, but he sure did ask the question at the wrong time.

Bring back a healthy Russell and Kevin Durant next year and you’ll have an NBA title favorite. As for right now, let Westbrook be as salty as he wants.
