The NHL Playoffs are in full swing, and one of the most exciting games of the postseason so far saw the Washington Capitals erase a 3-1 lead to even their series.

If you thought that Game of the opening round series between the New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals was entertaining, you clearly hadn’t seen anything yet. That was proven on Friday night in Game 2 when the Capitals took a 3-1 deficit and flipped it into a 4-3 win that evens the series heading back to New York.

It all started when the Isles jumped out to a 2-0 lead that soon built to what appeared to be a dominate 3-1 lead. But that wasn’t what the Capitals had planned and they quickly changed things by pulling within a goal after a rough first few periods of hockey.

That second goal wasn’t all for the Capitals though, as Niklas Backstrom tied the game 3-3 to continue Washington’s surge in Game 2.

Of course, what’s a comeback without a possible series defining goal to even things up at 1-1 in the first round before heading out to New York? That’s exactly what happened in the third period as the Capitals capped off their incredible comeback with a game-winning goal to give them a lead they never surrendered.

It was the Capitals’ first lead of the game and it’s a surge that could spark something special. All it takes in the postseason — no matter the sport — is one good game to get hot and once you’re hot you’re unstoppable.

That’s what this game could mean for Washington as they trailed 3-1 and have not only comeback to win but have evened a series they’re now hungry to win.
