It’s the NFL offseason, and that means we are guaranteed to have a few police investigations.

The Dallas Police Department has suspended its investigation into an aggravated assault case that allegedly involved Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib.

The investigation was for an incident that happened in the early morning of April 8. Talib and his brother, Yaqub, were at a Dallas nightclub when a physical altercation broke out and ended with a gun being shot. Reports say that three men broke out in a fight and security tried to stop and remove them. Once that happened, one man took a gun out and eventually shot it in the air. Talib and his brother were questioned by police at the scene and then were allowed to leave, but their cars were towed and searched for evidence.

In their official release, the Dallas Police Department said: “Detectives interviewed the Complainant, contacted witnesses and gathered evidence. Based on these interviews and the evidence currently available, this case has been suspended pending further leads.”

This case may have been suspended, but it’s still not a good look for Talib as he has a history with this type of stuff. In his second season in the NFL, the cornerback was suspended one game by the league for simple battery of a cab driver and resisting arrest. A couple of years later, Talib and his mother were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in an altercation involving his sister’s boyfriend (charges were later dropped after not having a credible witness).

Maybe everyone could easily look away if Talib had a clean past, but that’s simply not the case. You can be at the wrong place at the wrong time once – heck, maybe even twice – but three accounts in just a handful of years looks bad. It’s probably time for Talib to stay out of nightclubs in the wee hours of the morning.

Talib was the 20th overall selection of the 2008 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his 5th year at Tampa Bay, Talib was traded to the New England Patriots where he finished out the season at. After spending another season in New England, Talib hit the free agent market and signed a big six-year, $57 million deal with the Denver Broncos. He has made the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons, and that trend should continue as he is still in his prime at only 29 years old.
