The Washington Wizards and the Toronto Raptors are playing in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. You could tell by the shots fired by a Toronto paper at Paul Pierce.

The NBA Playoffs are finally here and there has already been no shortage of trash-talking. However, the trashing hasn’t been from player-to-player, but Toronto paper to Washington Wizards‘ Paul Pierce.

As you might know by now, Pierce’s Wizards are taking on the Toronto Raptors in a first-round matchup that will likely be one of the closer ones in all the NBA this postseason. However, the Toronto Sun doesn’t think it will be too close as they believe the Raptors are facing off against “dinosaurs.”

What do I mean by this?

Just check out this ridiculous front page and tell me that you don’t think the Toronto Sun is a bit of an eye-opening, controversial-type of paper.

The picture is pretty good as it has Pierce’s face photoshopped onto the body of a wizard with the title reading “Same Old Pierce,” with an emphasis on old.

It seems as if the paper has some type of personal problem with Pierce by calling him a dinosaur and saying basically that he’s not “The Truth” and basically talks out of his rear. If that who headline wasn’t enough, you could see in the bottom right hand corner, there are over 10 pages dedicated to the Raptors-Wizards series, meaning so much more hatred of Pierce on the inside.

The cover is pretty funny, though. I have to give the Sun a bit of credit for actually going there and calling Pierce a dinosaur. The 37-year-old probably doesn’t take too kindly to those words despite actually being one of the oldest players in the game today. He still has some game left in him, however, as he averaged 11.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest mostly as a role player.

Pierce’s days of stardom are long gone, but he’s on a team with some solid young talent in John Wall and Bradley Beal, so he’s just happy to be playing the game he loves.

As for the matchup between the Raptors and the Wizards — I mean, dinosaurs — Pierce will play a key role off the bench and will try to win his second NBA title.

Nice try, Toronto Sun, but you can’t insult The Truth because The Truth always wins.
