Lindsey Vonn, longtime girlfriend of Tiger Woods, admits that she doesnāt really like golf.Ā
To be fair, she prefers the fast-paced, adrenaline sports.
Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn appeared onĀ Late Night with Seth MeyersĀ on Monday and, of course, her relationship with infamous golfer Tiger Woods was a point of conversation. After discussing helping each other through injuries and dating a fellow athlete, the topic of enjoying the sport of golfĀ came up.
Meyers: Did you like watching golf? Was that something you did before?
Vonn: [long pause] āI love golf!ā
Meyers: [laughs] āIt seems very different. As an adrenaline junkie, it seems very different.ā
Vonn: āI justā¦I, I love golf.ā
Meyers makes a good point here, in that Vonnās races take a minute and half, tops. She is trying to race down the slope as fast a possible, that is the goal. Golfers? They are not known for being speedy.
Vonn, who just attended the Masters to cheer on Woods,Ā admittedĀ that golf take a little longer. āThatās like five hours. Itās a long time,ā said Vonn. And, if Woods makes the cut, not that itās a given these days, that is five hours multiplied by four days. Your whole weekend ā gone.
That is some serious dedication.

So, golf is not Vonnās favorite sport, but, to be fair, it does not have to be. To be successful, most relationships need common interests, but that doesnāt mean that both partiesĀ have to love all the same things.
What if you husband is an accountant? You do not have to love accounting, (do people love accounting?) you just have to support him as he pursues his career. That is what Vonn is doing, just with a bigger spotlight.
Apart from professional pursuits, there are millions of women out there that feel obligated to watch their significant others play sports. We watch not because we love the sport itself, but because we support our partner. Luckily for Vonn, her boyfriend is one of the best golfers in the world, not the sixth man on a 30-and-over rec basketball league in the suburbs.
Could be worse, girl.
