The Oklahoma City Thunder have fired long-time head coach Scott Brooks after he failed to get the team to the postseason this year.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are not in the postseason this year and that was all apparently the fault. That’s what his recent firing by the franchise seems to suggest, as his tenure with the Thunder has come to an end.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Spots, the Thunder have fired Scotty Brooks after he failed to coach the team to a playoff berth this season.

The writing had been on the wall for Brooks for a while now, as the team struggled last season and there was tension after they were bounced out of the postseason that suggested that his firing might happen. That was last season, and Brooks was entering the 2014-15 campaign a marked man on the hot seat.

Not making the playoffs wasn’t entirely his fault, as if the Thunder would have had Kevin Durant down the stretch of the season, there is no way they allow New Orleans to jump them. If Durant was healthy, the Thunder could be in a tight series with the Golden State Warriors but without his superstar, Brooks’ team fell apart.

Look at the results that Brooks turned in while with the Thunder. He took them to the playoffs on a consistent basis, brought them to the Conference Finals and took the franchise to it’s first and only NBA Finals appearance in 2012.

Brooks is going to get a great job in 2015-16, as teams like Denver, Orlando and Minnesota will jump at him and throw millions of dollars his way. That’s not what people do for bad coaches, but the Thunder wanted results and the first chance they got to fire him, the team took it.
