NBA Coaching Carousel: Five NBA Coaches on the Hot Seat
By Daniel Tran
Tom Thibodeau
Aside from San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau may be one of the most beloved coaches in the NBA for fans. He coaches hard, and expects that his players play with the same toughness that he coaches with. However, that is the kind of coaching that makes players and management turn on you.
Thibodeau never takes a day off and he expects that his players follow suit. He has a reputation of holding hard practices that wear his teams down by the end of the season, resulting two first-round exits in the previous three years under his tenure in Chicago.
He often clashes with the front office on his approach and despite securing a No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference in this years playoffs while missing Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah for long stretches, there is a high probability that he will not be back to coach the Bulls because of his in your face style.
The difference between him and Popovich is that Popovich knows when to layoff his players and give them some rest after riding them hard. With Thibodeau, there is no let up, no break, and no championship ring to hold over the front office to get them off his back about his approach. I would expect him to be in high demand this offseason.
