NFL Draft Rumors: 3 reasons Browns shouldn’t trade up for Marcus Mariota

The team has reportedly expressed interest in trading up for the Oregon quarterback just one year after taking quarterback Johnny Manziel in the first round.


The Cleveland Browns have been one of a multitude of teams embroiled in talks to trade up in the draft. Along with the San Diego Chargers, the New York Jets and the Philadelphia Eagles, their collective target is Oregon quarterback and Heisman trophy winner Marcus Mariota, who has shot up draft boards after impressive workouts and expanded looks at his game tape.

And yet, at the same time, the notion of trading up for Mariota has been somewhat diminished. The Tennessee Titans select second in the draft, and Mariota has drawn interest from them at that slot.

This has not deterred teams from their interest in trading up for Mariota. When approached about the possibility of a move higher in the draft, Browns general manager Ray Farmer provided the definitive answer Cleveland needed.

From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

"“Sure, why not?” he said."

This of course what you say when Five Guys asks you if you want your onions grilled rather than raw. This is not what you say when discussing a move that would become the basis for your job security.

This would be a poor decision on the part of Farmer and the Browns front office for a few reasons
