2. They have a very tough schedule

When the schedules were released on Tuesday, the Cowboys had to have been cringing every time they looked down at the list of teams they would have to play. Every schedule has a few games that seem to be ‘easy wins’ and Dallas has those few, but the rest are anything but.

The Cowboys will start the season with divisional-rival New York and then travel to another division foe in Philadelphia. Those two could either give the Cowboys a huge leg up on the division race, or put them way behind early on.

Then they’ll have to travel to play the New Orleans Saints before coming home to the reigning Super Bowl champs, the New England Patriots. If that wasn’t a tough enough start to the season, they will then have the Giants, Seattle Seahawks and Eagles all in a row after a week six bye.

Realistically, the Cowboys could start the season just 4-4 or even 3-5. That would put this team just out of playoff contention at the halfway mark of the year with a ton of ground to make up on the rest of the NFC.
