5 teams that would take Johnny Manziel
The San Diego Chargers have found themselves in a big problem. Their franchise quarterback of 12 years, Philip Rivers is very unhappy with the organization. The team could very possibly be relocating three hours north to Los Angeles, and Rivers will not have any part of it. He has put down his roots in San Diego, and has not been shy to voice his displeasure with the potential move.
"“What we’ve established here with my growing family is hard to recreate,” Rivers told U-T San Diego. “I know that moves are part of life, but it certainly is fair to say that (not being sold on moving to Los Angeles) is part of it. The good thing is I’m not under contract in a year where we would potentially be in Los Angeles.”"
Rivers is going to walk if they make the move to The City of Angels, something that looks more and more possible with the team stuck playing in the concrete dumpster that is Qualcomm Stadium. He is a free agent after the season, so it is a very real threat.
The Chargers must start looking now for a replacement for if and when this happens. The hot rumor is swapping Rivers for the Tennessee Titans’ No. 2 overall pick and drafting Oregon’s Marcus Mariota, but that looks less likely every day.
Manziel, meanwhile, would be a quarterback with a ton of upside that the Chargers could easily package a deal for. I am in no way suggesting that the team would replace Rivers with Manziel immediately, but he would be a solid backup that the team can at least get a look at in the event that their unhappy starting quarterback bolts next offseason.
