Miami Marlins

Incumbent Manager: Mike Redmond

At 5-11, the Miami Marlins may be one of the biggest disappointments in baseball during the early goings. The team made numerous moves this winter, adding veterans to a young squad thinking that the team was ready to make the jump into contention.

That hasn’t worked out quite as planned. In particular, the pitching has been atrocious (4.73 team ERA) and injuries aren’t going to help that.

That’s gotten the gossip mongers howling and declaring that current Marlins’ manager Mike Redmond is already on the hot seat. However, it isn’t that far of a reach. Marlins’ owner Jeffery Loria isn’t known to have much patience when it comes to managers and Redmond is entering that critical third season at the helm. Coupled with the investment that the team made this winter (and Loria hates that), the rope Redmond has to work with may be shrinking.

That all said, this may be the first available opening for Ron Gardenhire to consider. However, it doesn’t necessarily make it the best option. The aforementioned patience of Loria will likely play a role in that decision, as Gardenhire would prefer a role he can settle into for a while. Since only two managers in the history of the Marlins organization have ever last longer than three seasons, this likely isn’t the long-term role Gardenhire desires.
