Milwaukee Brewers

Incumbent Manager: Ron Roenicke

The Brewers have said they don’t intend to act on the status of manager Ron Roenicke anytime soon, but it is hard to argue with the writing on the wall. This team is terrible.

At this writing, the Brewers are currently 3-13 on the season. With just 16 games in the books, Milwaukee has somehow managed to accrue a -45 run differential, brought on by simultaneously leading the league in runs allowed (91 or 5.69 RPG) and putting up the third fewest runs scored in the game (46 or 2.88 RPG). Needless to say, you aren’t going to win very many games that way.

Of course, the rotation in Milwaukee is the biggest culprit, with only Jimmy Nelson (1.35) having an ERA below 5.00. However, there is potential here with Matt Garza (5.40), Wily Peralta (5.68), Mike Fiers (6.75), and Kyle Lohse (7.94) all capable of rebounding from their horrible starts.

That all said, it may take a change at the top in order to get it done. While the vote of confidence in Roenicke may be reassuring, it may also be misplaced. In Roenicke’s six years as the Brewers manager, he has delivered just one division title (2011) and the team has had an average finish of 3.2 during his tenure according to Baseball-Reference.

Milwaukee would be a perfect landing spot for Gardenhire, as he has experience working with and making winners out of small market teams with young players. There are pieces to work with in Milwaukee, in particular Lohse, who Gardenhire managed while in Minnesota.
