5 reasons why the Houston Rockets are unstoppable in the West
4. Spurs are too old
Speaking of the reigning champion San Antonio Spurs, how would they fair against the Rockets in the second round? Well, considering they also would be worn down from beating up on the Clippers in a tough series and the Rockets will have all the time in the world to rest and prepare for them, I would say not great.
San Antonio’s success is based off the fact that they can sit their ancient starting five enough so when the critical minutes inevitably surface, they are refreshed and ready to go. I can’t see how this will be possible if Houston sweeps the Mavericks and the Spurs battle it out with LA for six or seven games.
Not just that, but the aging Tim Duncan and inexperienced Tiago Splitter will also have a tough time containing Dwight Howard. I can’t see the Spurs beating the Rockets, but I will give the defending champions some credit. Their team-oriented style of play has been the one consistent success story of the last 15 years in the NBA. So they will be tough to beat. But after the Rockets wear them out in a seven game series, the Western Conference Semi-finals will belong to Houston by the end of it all.
