Dwight Howard looks like his former self with a monster alley-oop (video)

It looks like Dwight Howard got healthy at the right time.

This past regular season for Dwight Howard was definitely one of the most challenging as he missed half of it due to injury, but that’s all behind him now.

Howard returned from injury and was able to play nine games before the playoffs started, and that was enough time for him to get into his normal form. In the first three games of the series against the Dallas Mavericks, Howard has averaged 17.3 points (59 percent shooting), 14.3 rebounds and three rebounds per game.

Those are monster numbers, and really numbers we haven’t consistently seen from Howard in a long time. The Houston Rockets were scary all year simply because of James Harden, but there is no limit to how far they can go if Howard continues that level of play.

Half of the second quarter has already come and gone in tonight’s fourth game of the series, and Howard is continuing his high level of play with 10 points (100 percent shooting), one rebound and one block. He has made all five of his field goal attempts, but none were better than this alley-oop in transition.

Reggie Miller doesn’t often say things that make sense, but he was spot on when he said that was vintage Dwight Howard. That was the type of play we were so used to seeing in his Orlando days, but injuries have stopped him from being that explosive player that is all over the court. It would be amazing to see more plays like this from Howard this postseason, and who knows, maybe the Rockets will play into June and give Howard a lot of opportunities to make these plays.

If the Rockets are able to wrap up this series tonight, they will have a decent amount of time to rest as they will play with winner of the San Antonio, Los Angeles series – and those teams are tied 2-2 in their series.
