Next: Biggest Draft Busts In NFL History
The NFL Draft is just three days away, so itās hard to imagine a worse time than now for a prospect to screw up in a major way.
Bu Shane RayĀ has done exactly that. The former University of Missouri defensive end was cited for marijuana possession in Missouri on Monday.
How much marijuana did he have on him? A lot.
Before this incident, Ray was widely considered to be a first-round prospect. It certainly will be interesting to see how much this damages hisĀ draft stock.
A prospect gettingĀ in trouble for marijuana possession at any point in the draft processĀ would surely constitute as a red-flag for NFL teams, butĀ itās likely even more problematic now with potential draftees so close to the ultimate prize.
Youād have to imagine everyone close to him has to be letting him know how stupid he was to make this mistake just days before the draft. Millions of dollars are on the line and there is so much at stake, and youāre trying to convince NFL franchises youāre a mature adult and worth taking a risk on.Ā Draft experts have spent countless hours on television analyzing all of the off-field issues of Jameis Winston and other players.
There will be some teams down in the draft order who would love Ray but thought he was out of reach at the top of the draft, and now there is the very real chance he could slip to them.
That is if theyāre willing to take a chance on him, cause you know, he was cited for marijuana possession days before the draft.
The only issue is, this isnāt the first incident apparently.
