Mike Mayock Browns Mock Draft: Cleveland selects
With the 12th pick in Mike Mayock’s NFL mock draft, the Cleveland Browns select Danny Shelton, nose tackle, from Washington. Mayock has Shelton rated as the second-best player at his position.
2014 Recap
Cleveland started out looking like a playoff contender, leading the AFC North with a 6-3 mark through 10 weeks. Unfortunately, the wheels fell off and the Browns finished 7-9, last in the division once again. Cleveland went through a quarterback change at the conclusion of the season, replacing Brian Hoyer with Johnny Manziel.
Team needs
Cleveland is in need of offensive help. Although Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline were added, a receiver is still coveted. The Browns are also without considerable talent at running back and tight end. Defensively, Cleveland could use a corner to replace Buster Skrine and an outside linebacker.
Last year’s pick
Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M. Cleveland ended up trading back with the Buffalo Bills, netting a 2015 first-round pick while Buffalo took Sammy Watkins. The Browns picked eighth and took Justin Gilbert, a corner from Oklahoma State. Matthews went sixth-overall to the Atlanta Falcons.
With their second first-round pick at No. 26, Mayock mocked Teddy Bridgewater to Cleveland. He was right about the position, with the Browns trading up four spots to take Johnny Manziel. Bridgewater went with the last first-round selection to the Minnesota Vikings.
Scheduled pick
On Thursday night, the Browns hold the 12th and 19th-overall picks in the 2015 NFL Draft.
