With the third pick in Mike Mayock’s NFL mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Dante Fowler Jr., outside linebacker/defensive end, from Florida. Mayock has Fowler rated as the best player at his position.

2014 Recap

Jacksonville struggled through another tough season, finishing with a 3-13 record, actually one game worse than the prior campaign. The Jaguars transitioned from Chad Henne to rookie Blake Bortles, but couldn’t protect him while allowing a league-high 71 sacks, 13 more than anybody else.

Team needs

The Jaguars have plenty of needs on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the offensive line needs to be addressed, specifically guard and right tackle. On defense, Jacksonville has a solid pass rush but the secondary must see improvement. Outside linebacker is also a problem.

Last year’s pick

Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo. Instead, Jacksonville shocked many by taking Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles third-overall. Mack went fifth to the Oakland Raiders and appears to have a bright future.

Scheduled pick

On Thursday night, the Jaguars hold the third-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
