With the 13th-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected Stanford Cardinal offensive tackle Andrus Peat. Peat was projected to go in the early-to-middle portion of the first round by many, while a few believed he could sink into the 20’s.

Grade: B

Peat is going to help protect Drew Brees, starting at right tackle from the start. Peat was a All Pac-12 First-Team member in 2014, paving the way for one of the nation’s best rushing attacks. Stanford and New Orleans play very similar systems, making the transition easier for the rookie.

New Orleans finished 7-9 last year and is trying to remake the team. Earlier in the offseason, the Saints traded All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks for center Max Unger and a first-round pick. They also dealt away Pro Bowl left guard Ben Grubbs to the Kansas City Chiefs for a fifth-round selection. With Peat in the fold, general manager Mickey Loomis continues to churn the position group.

Going forward, the Saints still need to add to a leaky defense. Getting help in the front seven would be an immediate need, especially in the linebackers core.
