3 reasons why Marcus Mariota will win Titans starting QB job
The Tennessee Titans have selected Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Why will he start over disgruntled quarterback Zach Mettenberger?

The Tennessee Titans made a bold move in the 2015 NFL Draft by not trading the pick that everyone thought they would and taking the best available player in Marcus Mariota at No. 2 overall.
Now that they have selected one of the best quarterbacks in recent memory, Zach Mettenberger is not happy with his team. The rookie quarterback was drafted in the sixth round last season and was brought in to be a possible replacement for the now-retired Jake Locker.
However, Mettenberger has had injury issues in the past that make him a liability on the field, forcing the Titans to take a chance on a guy like Mariota in case Mettenberger doesn’t pan out or just can’t stay healthy.
With the type of success Mariota had in college with the Oregon Ducks, it’s easy to see why the Titans just couldn’t pass him up at the No. 2 spot.
Mettenberger, like I said, isn’t happy about the pick and his agent even demanded a trade. The Titans say that they won’t be trading either QB and there will be a healthy competition for the starting job in the fall.
Now that it’s been declared both quarterbacks will be staying, who will win the starting job in August?
Let’s take a look at three reasons why it would be crazy to start anyone not named Marcus Mariota.
1. Mettenberger won’t play inspired
Mettenberger started six games last season for the Titans and threw for just over 1,400 yards and the team lost all six games that the rookie quarterback started. Now that he knows his job is in jeopardy, he demanded a trade, showing that he isn’t welcoming any competition.
Let’s face it, we all thought he would be handed the reigns to this team after Locker’s retirement, but that hasn’t been the case as the Titans are basically tossing him aside.
Mettenberger will be a very disgruntled teammate throughout and he’s already acting like he has no shot at starting next season, basically telling the coaches to start Mariota.
2. Mariota is a better passer
Marcus Mariota was drafted in this position because he’s one of the premier passers in the entire nation and the young quarterback will prove that in the offseason.
It’s not difficult to see why the team picked him, I mean he had over 4,000 yards passing and over 40 touchdowns with just less than a handful of interceptions. He can escape pressure and throw on the run, something Mettenberger has trouble doing with a bad leg.
3. Mariota is a dual-threat
Like I already stated, Mariota can escape the pocket and throw on the run, as well as just keep the ball and make guys miss down the field. Watching his tape, you would almost think Mariota is a running back at the QB position.
The guy is absolutely lethal in the run game, making him something of a mystery to defenses. Mettengberger has basically zero ability to run nowadays and he will end up losing out on the starting job because he’s not nearly as versatile as the young Mariota.
Sorry Zach, your days as Tennessee’s starting QB are over.
