Playing in just 35 games during the 2014-15 regular season, Kobe Bryant is experiencing a bit of a spiraling end to his career. Although he’s had a pretty storied NBA tenure thus far, he knows the end is near and the 36-year-old will turn 37 before next season.
However, the former MVP knows what it takes to be one of the most successful athletes in all of sports. You don’t hear people shooting hoops in their driveways saying “Kobe” when they put a shot up for no reason — he has become an icon over the years.
With the voting for NBA MVP about to take place soon for certain players and media members, Bryant discussed who he thinks should take home the same trophy he won back in 2008.
During an interview with The Insider, Kobe discussed the options for MVP, obviously narrowing it down to two candidates: Stephen Curry and James Harden.
Curry has had a phenomenal season and has become one of the best point guards in recent memory, but Harden is carrying his team. Curry has led the Golden State Warriors to the best record, 67-15, in the NBA this season while Harden has brought the injury-ridden Houston Rockets from the brink and turned them into one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
Bryant weighed the options and picked his winner.
"Who would Kobe Bryant pick for the 2015 NBA MVP? We got the answer from the man himself.Posted by The Insider on Thursday, April 30, 2015"
Harden is Bryant’s vote, which is high praise considering the Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar has won five NBA titles, two Finals MVPs, one regular season MVP and has been named an NBA All-Star an unbelievable 17 times in his 18-year career.
If you’re looking for a model of consistency and a guy to look up to in the league, Bryant is that guy.
On the year, Harden is averaging 27.4 points, 7.0 assists and 5.7 rebounds while just missing out on the league scoring title to Russell Westbrook — a guy who may have won MVP if he had led the Thunder to the playoffs.
There you have it, folks. Kobe Bryant has his MVP and whatever he says, goes.
