New York Daily News trolls A-Rod for hitting 660th HR (Photo)

The New York Daily didn’t have the nicest headline about Alex Rodriguez following the slugger’s 660th home run that tied Willie Mays.

Since returning from his year long suspension, Alex Rodriguez hasn’t had much trouble getting back in the swing of things as far as hitting home runs goes. He has hit six so far this year, which ties him for seventh in the MLB through one month of baseball. His sixth tied him with Willie Mays for fourth all time on the career home run list with 660.

The only problem is, some people think every home run that A-Rod hits is tainted because of his history of PED use.

Even the publication in his hometown, the New York Daily, doesn’t really want to give him credit for his historic accomplishment.

When the publication in the city you play in isn’t behind you, it’s probably pretty hard to think anyone is. The New York Daily is obviously pretty bitter about A-Rod’s steroid use and the imprint it has left on the game of baseball. On the front page the title reads “Dust off your asterisks again as A-Rod ties Mays on homer list with 660*”. Not exactly the congratulations Rodriguez was probably looking for. Especially when 315 of those 660 home runs were hit for the Yankees.

What can you expect though? When a player blatantly cheats and is caught, and then does it again, it’s impossible to entertain the idea of rooting him on. Barry Bonds felt the same thing towards the end of his career. Fans at opposing ball parks would hold up signs with asterisks on them as he chased Hank Aaron’s mark of the most home runs of all time.

But Bonds is long gone in the MLB. Which means fans need a new person to hate. For now, Alex Rodriguez is that guy. And as far as I’m concerned, he probably deserves any publication that bashes him for his past with PED use. Props to the New York Daily for their epic troll on A-Rod.
