Floyd Mayweather fought and beat Manny Pacquiao in a full 12-round fight, and that has us wondering what is next for the champion of the world.

After five years of anticipation and five years of building up hype, we finally got to see who would win a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. It took a full 12 rounds, but Mayweather successfully defended his welterweight title and has remained the undisputed, undefeated champion of the world.

With this fight now in the books, the question is who will Mayweahter fight next?

Of course, the fight we all want to see next is a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, but that’s doubtful to happen.

As of right now, there’s no indication that these two fighters will get back into the ring together — at least not anytime soon. But both of these fighters looked sharp the whole fight, and it makes us want to see more of what we saw. We waited five years for this fight to happen, which is a lot of the reason why it felt like it went by so fast. There were sequels to other classic fights and there will be a sequel to Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

The most likely case for Mayweather is that he’ll fight one more fight on his Showtime contract and retire. That’s what he’s said he will do and that’s probably the best move for him. Let’s not forget that if Mayweather retires, he can always come out of retirement to fight Manny Pacquiao again and cash in on the anticipation of a rematch.

Either way, it’s doubtful that Mayweather will fight again after his next bout in September. He has a fight scheduled then that he plans on honoring and then he plans on hanging up the gloves.

He’s 48-0 and is gunning for at least 49-0 before considering retirement. Getting to a truly undisputed 50-0 would be a mark that may never be matched and that allure may be too much to not draw Mayweather back to the ring for at least two more fights.
