2016 NFL Mock Draft
By Will Osgood
9. St. Louis Rams–O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
The St. Louis Rams still don’t have enough offensive talent at the skill positions to compete in the ever difficult NFC West. Howard, though underutilized a season ago at Alabama, is a uniquely gifted pass-catcher who also projects as an able blocking tight end.
Howard would help whomever is under center for the Rams (whether in Los Angeles or St. Louis) become at least a moderately more effective offense.
10. Detroit Lions–Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Ole Miss
If Robert Nkemdiche proves to be healthy in 2015, there’s no reason to think he’s not a top-10 pick next season. As a true junior he’ll undoubtedly enter the draft and will fill a hole for the Lions, who could struggle along the defensive line in 2015, after losing both Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley and moving to the 3-4 defense.
Nkemdiche is a good fit for the 3-4 scheme and could be a playmaker and a run-stuffer.
11. Buffalo Bills–Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State
The Buffalo Bills sent Kiko Alonso packing to Philadelphia this offseason to make way for LeSean “Shady” McCoy, leaving a rather large gap in the middle of their defense, and no one to fill it. Since Rex Ryan prides himself on defense and relies on his front-seven, he often goes D.
But he badly needs a quarterback. He gets a pretty good one, who some analysts currently like more than No. 11. But he’s a big statue with accuracy issues. He needs to improve that if he wants to go higher than 11 next year.
12. Washington Redskins–Jalen Ramsey, S, Florida State
First-year general manager Scott McCloughlan did an unsurprisingly great job of acquiring talent in this year’s draft, but the Redskins were quite flawed headed into the draft and will see only marginal improvement in 2015.
However, in drafting Jalen Ramsey they get a ball-hawking safety who kind of falls into their laps and instantly helps improve their no better than average defense.
