Angels broadcaster will save you from a foul ball
Angels broadcaster Jose Mota catches fouled-back balls during his broadcast, protecting his broadcast partner in the process.
If you happen to find yourself at an Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim game (seriously, that name), the safest place for you to sit might just be in the press box.
Apparently, Angels broadcaster Jose Mota, a former Major League infielder, brings his glove to games and keeps it with him in the broadcast booth, which is probably a good idea given the fact that the netting behind the plate only goes so far. Earlier this week, Mota’s glove came in handy.
During the seventh inning of Monday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners, Mota caught a ball that was fouled back behind the plate, protecting his broadcast partner, who was ducking in an attempt not to get drilled in the head, in the process. The crowd, unsurprisingly, went wild.

While the catch was pretty routine, especially for a former professional baseball player, the ball came off of the bat quick, and Mota did not have much time to think. His broadcast partner sure is lucky to have
Oh, and he was calling the game during the whole incident. Clearly Mota, who he is a man of many talents.
In Mota’s honor, here is the non-so-official list of broadcasters that we hope this happens to in the future, just for the clip alone.
1) Yankees’ Suzyn Waldman protecting John Sterling. If the resultant on-air moment is even a fraction as awesome as the Roger Clemens one, it’ll be worth it.
2) Royals’ Rex Hudler protecting Ryan Lefebvre. Rex provides broadcast gems all the time. We’re sure this would be no exception.
3) Anyone, truly anyone, protecting the Dodgers’ Vin Scully. We’d love to hear Vin’s call of that. The man is a national treasure.
