Iman Shumpert strains groin during Bulls game (Video)
By Seth Colgan
The last thing the Cleveland Cavaliers need is another injury — and Iman Shumpert gave them a scare on Wednesday night.
During tonight’s game against the Chicago Bulls, Iman Shumpert was pulled from the game with an apparent left groin strain in the 2nd quarter.
It was kind of a strange way to sustain an injury, with very minimal contact from Mike Dunleavy on the play. Shumpert appeared to pull his groin after crossing his left leg over his right during a drive to the basket.
Without an obvious trigger to the strain, it may suggest that Shumpert has been dealing with a minor groin issue for some period of time, which was aggravated by a relatively conservative movement.
Shumpert returned to the game, but the possibilty of him being sidelined again is this series is not something the Cavaliers want to think about. With Kevin Love already out, Cleveland has had enough injury woes this post-season. If Shumpert is restricted in upcoming games, the three point shooting of Cleveland will be even further impacted, which will severely limit their offense and thus their ability to compete.
However, despite the injury, Shumpert finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds. He also went 4-7 from the three point line. Even with his time in the locker room, Shumpert logged 29 minutes in the game. Hopefully the strain doesn’t turn into a more serious issue for Shumpert, because with a limited roster, The Cleveland Cavaliers need all available personnel at 100%.
Shumpert will have Thursday to rest and recover before Game 3 on Friday at the United Center in Chicago.
