Former LSU offensive tackle, La’el Collins, now of the Dallas Cowboys, promises that Dallas Cowboys offensive line will be the best ever

La’el Collins, who signed with the Dallas Cowboys today, has promised that, “This is going to be the best offensive line in NFL History.”

As a rookie with less than 24 hours on his new team, he’s certainly already making extremely bold claims which may be hard to take back later. He even said of his claims, “Mark my words.”

Well, La’el, I will. I plan to write you a strongly worded tweet next year if this offensive line isn’t the best in NFL history. Part of Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones’ pitch to Collins was that he would be joining an already elite offensive line. The Cowboys offensive line was without a doubt one of, if not the best, in football last year. With Tyron Smith, Ronald Leary, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, and Doug Free on the line already, Collins will be joining a talented bunch.

Many predicted that Collins would go somewhere where he could be a day one starter, such as the Carolina Panthers. Instead Collins has opted to join a crowded group of talented players in hopes that he can perhaps look better playing alongside them and earn a major contract after the minimum two years have expired on his undrafted free agent contract.

The drama surrounding La’el Collins since the week of the draft has been one of the ongoing stories even persisting well after the draft concluded. Collins is an offensive lineman, with most of his experience at left tackle, and was projected as a first round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Right before the draft took place Collins’ pregnant ex-girlfriend was murdered. While Collins wasn’t made a primary suspect or anything, he was still a suspect by virtue of his past relationship. It was also uncertain who the father of the unborn child was and if it was his then would that qualify as motive for him to murder her?

With these questions swirling around Collins, the first day of the draft took place and Collins was not picked. Collins then publicly declared that he would not sign a contract for any team that drafted him if it was after the second day of the draft. This meant that if he were drafted in rounds 4-7 he would not sign the contract and reenter the draft next year.

By being an undrafted free agent, he was able to pick which team an environment he’d be walking into. Also, an undrafted free agent he is eligible for an extension sooner rather than later if he were drafted, after two years. Collins is looking to earn that money back as quick as he can.
