Getting the right starting pitcher is the most important piece of daily fantasy baseball and a key to success in season-long leagues as well, so lets’ look closer at today’s fantasy baseball starting pitchers.
3 Starting Pitcher Studs
1. Michael Wacha-St. Louis Cardinals: Wacha makes his second straight start against the Pirates tonight as he looks to improve to 5-0. In his five starts this season, he has allowed more than one run just one time while pitching into the seventh in all but one start. Wacha has only 18 strikeouts in 32.2 innings, but he has dominated opponents holding them to a .217 average while posting an impressive 1.93 ERA. Tonight, he’ll look to pick up where he left off against Pittsburgh in his last start allowing just five hits in 6.2 scoreless innings on Sunday.
2. Matt Harvey-New York Mets: Harvey also is coming off a strong outing after holding the Nationals scoreless for seven innings last Friday on just five hits. Harvey had a season-low three strikeouts in that game, but he has picked up at least seven strikeouts in each of his other starts. If you need punchouts, Harvey is a slightly better play than Wacha especially as he takes on the Phillies tonight. I expect Wacha to have fewer runs and better innings, but Harvey will likely end the night with more K’s. Which one is a better option for you all depends on your scoring system.
3. Sonny Gray-Oakland Athletics: Oakland has gotten great pitching from Gray so far this season, and he’ll look to keep his roll going tonight in Seattle. In his six starts, Gray is 4-0 with an impressive 1.67 ERA. He has fanned 35 in his 43 innings and is coming off a season-high ten strikeouts in Texas where he held the Rangers scoreless for 6.2 innings despite walking seven. Gray will be making his second start of the season against the Mariners who he held to six hits and one earned run in 7.1 innings in his second start of the season. He’s a solid option as he takes the mound at Safeco tonight.
