Houston Rockets’ Corey Brewer fined $5,000 by the NBA for this Matrix-style flop.

In Game 2 of Houston Rockets – Los Angeles Clippers series, things got a bit interesting. With 1:02 remaining in the first the Clippers tried to inbound the ball and while Lester Hudson tried to free himself for the inbound, this happened.

With arms outstretched, Brewer is propelled by a mysterious force causing him to go flying into the stanchion. This may have passed the refs in the game, but the league went after Corey Brewer’s wallet to the tune of $5,000. The post-season flopping policy is to skip the first first warning, usually given in the regular season, and go directly to fining $5,000. The next flop will be $10k and $15k for the third.

It doesn’t seem Corey Brewer will be be affected by this too much in the terms of being a step closer, yet still pretty far, from being suspended. It does mean, however, that the refs may be a more suspicious about using their whistles when that player has recently been caught trying to deceive the refs. The playoffs are already a situation where refs swallow their whistles a little more and it may be that much harder to get a call now.

Brewer has been a solid contributor in these playoffs for the Rockets, sparking runs against Mavericks in their last series. Corey Brewer has averaged thirteen points, three rebounds, and one assist so far this postseason, including a 22-point game against the Mavricks on April 24th.

Corey Brewer and the Rockets take on the Clippers tonight for game 3.
