5 struggling MLB stars that could turn it around soon
It’s hard to believe Weaver is struggling to much this season. The Los Angeles Angels were projected to be one of the best teams in baseball this year, yet they’re trailing in their own division, the AL West, to the surprising Houston Astros by five games.
With a record under .500 on the year, the Angels have been hoping Weaver would snap out of his early-season slump and pitch some gems like he used to.
On the year, Weaver has a 1-4 record with a 4.98 ERA and just 21 strikeouts in 43.1 innings pitched. Prior to the 2015 season, Weaver had been one of the better pitchers in baseball, posting an ERA over 4.00 just one time in his career.
However, this slow start should come as no surprise seeing as the 32-year-old pitcher’s numbers have been on the decline every season since 2011. In fact, Weaver’s ERA has risen in each season since then, going from 2.41 to 3.59 last season.
Not many people saw Weaver struggling this much, and it seems like his cold streak may just be over. The starter pitcher a complete game six-hitter on Friday night, lowering his ERA from an astronomical 6.29 — over a full run.
Angels fans are hoping that start snowballs into something for Weaver as his reputation for being one of the best in the league is on the line.
