For today’s look at starting pitchers, we’ll take a look at a few studs who are good options on this slide, followed by some stay-away options on the next slide, and finally some all-important sleepers who can deliver despite a lower price.
Getting the right starting pitcher is one of the most important pieces of daily fantasy baseball success and it is also an important part of season-long leagues as well, so let’s look closer at today’s fantasy baseball starting pitchers.
3 Starting Pitcher Studs
1. Dallas Keuchel-Houston Astros: Even though his strikeout numbers haven’t been elite, Keuchel continues to dominate opposing hitters allowing just two runs on 12 hits in his last four starts combined. In his six starts, he has only allowed multiple runs one time while pitching at least seven full innings in all but one outing. Tonight, Keuchel takes on the Angels who he held scoreless for six innings in a mid-April start. He comes into tonight with a 0.80 ERA and a 0.76 WHIP, and he’s emerging as one of the best fantasy options in the league despite just 30 strikeouts in 45 innings.
2. Clayton Kershaw-Los Angeles Dodgers: If you are looking for more K’s than Keuchel brings to the table, Kershaw is the way to go (provided you can afford him). Kershaw has at least eight strikeouts in five of his six starts including a season-high 12 strikeouts when he faced Colorado in mid-April. He takes on the Rockies again tonight, this time in Coors Field. In the last three seasons, Kershaw is 4-0 in Denver with a 3.05 ERA in his six starts including a pair of complete games. While the altitude may keep him from twirling a gem, I do expect a solid start with plenty of strikeouts and a good shot at picking up a win against the Rockies.
3. Madison Bumgarner-San Francisco Giants: In his last start, Bumgarner dominated the Padres allowing just two hits in 7.1 shutout innings walking one and striking out six. He has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last three starts while pitching into the seventh in each outing. He doesn’t have great splits against the Marlins, but he’s in a groove and should be ready to dominate Miami’s lineup tonight at AT&T Park.
