The Pittsburgh Pirates made an incredible 4-5-4 triple play and it might have the been the first of its kind ever.

With the Major Leagues being around since 1869, just about everything that can be done on the field has been done on the field.

The Pittsburgh Pirates, in the year 2015, did something that appears to never have been done.

The team turned a 4-5-4 triple play after an incredible defensive sequence against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals.

With the Cardinals having runners on second and third, they lined out to second, who threw to third, who stepped on the bag before the runner heading for home could get back. Then the runner heading from second to third, got caught flat footed and the ball went back to second to turn the rare and exciting triple play.

It was great heads up baseball by Neil Walker and Jung Ho-Kang, who had the awareness to realize the runner breaking from second wasn’t aware of what was going on.

Kang almost blew it, too. After tagging third, he started to jog back to the dugout before the little light in his head went on and told him that there was still an out to go.

Luckily the light didn’t go on in the runner’s head or everyone would have been robbed of history.

Just when you thought you’ve seen everything on the diamond, you hadn’t.
