DraftKings Pitcher Picks – May 11
Welcome back to the première website to get expert fantasy advice, including Starting Pitcher Selections for DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball contests. My 34 SP picks for this year (average salary of $8,200) have netted 18.5 FPPG. Below are my picks for Monday, May 11th, 2015. Good Luck!
Gerrit Cole (PIT) at. PHI for $8,900: The young Bucco right-hander is off to a great start, going 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 35K in 39 2/3 IP. He faces a 11-21 Philadelphia squad who is dead last in the majors with an abysmal 2.84 runs scored a game. Citizens Bank Park is just 25th in Park Factor runs (.084) which is consistent with its 2014 numbers (24th, 0.93) as well. While CBP is known to give up its share of home runs, Cole has only given up two this year. Count on the Cole Train to get back on track after a so-so outing vs. CIN (L, 3 ER, 4 Ks in 5 IP) last time out. Cole is simply pitching too good to have two bad outings in a row, especially as the huge road favorite (-170) Pirates face Jerome Williams (5.18 ERA, 1.61 WHIP) and the Phillies tonight.

Danny Duffy (KC) at vs. TEX for $6,400: Going into his last start, Duffy was a respectable 2-0 with a 3.45 ERA and 14.5 FPPG at an avg. salary of $6,800. Although he got knocked out after 1 IP vs. CLE, look for him to rebound against the Rangers, who are 22nd in runs scored in the MLB. Additionally, Texas in 22nd is batting vs. LHP (.246) and has the 2nd worst strikeout rate (87 K, 366 IP) against them. At an extremely affordable $6400 salary, look for Duffy to get you 15+ FPs for the 20-11 Royals, who are a -125 road favorite against the 13-18 Rangers.
Longshot of the Night: Josh Collmenter (ARZ) home vs. WAS for $6300: This is a low risk, high reward pick, with Collmenter (3-3, 3.40 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) pitching at home against the Nationals. Collmenter has been very good lately, winning his last two starts with 3.33 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 15 Ks in 15 IP. He also is an anomaly due to his history of pitching much better in Chase Field than elsewhere, with a career 21-16 record and impressive 3.11 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. Plus, he is 2-0 with 2 career starts vs. WAS with a 2.57 ERA against them and current Nats are hitting only .241 against him. While Collmenter isn’t a big strikeout pitcher, the Nationals have 203 Ks in 843 AB vs. RHP which is the 4th highest rate in the league. With many fantasy players likely going with Scherzer the ownership will be extremely low and you could get a lot of bang for your buck here, especially if the slight underdog Diamondbacks (+115) win.

Stay Away: Jacob DeGrom (NYM) at CHC for $8100. The talented righty is going to get some action, especially because of his high K/IP (32 in 36 2/3) and relatively cheap price. But DeGrom has not been great on the road in his career, with a 4.03 ERA in 14 away starts, compared to a 1.61 ERA in 14 home starts. In 2015, DeGrom is 0-2 outside CitiField, losing both starts (6.95 FPPG) and giving up 8 ER in 11 IP. With the wind projected to be blowing out at 15 + mph at Wrigley, I would pass on DeGrom against the Cubs, who are a -140 favorite with John Lester on the mound.
Good Luck!
