Early DraftKings Pitcher Picks – May 13
Welcome back to the première website to get expert fantasy advice, including Starting Pitcher Selections for DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball contests. As Meatloaf once said, “Two of Three Ain’t Bad”. Well, that describes our results last night with Jake Arrieta ($8600, 37 FP) and Nate Eovaldi ($6300, 15.7 FP) earning you very good FP/$1000 numbers while Ian Kennedy ($8100, 3.3 FP) did not. However, if you rotated these guys into three 50/50 lineups and had decent success with your hitter selections, which their relatively low salaries allowed, you could have placed in a majority of the contests and came out in the black. There are only three games in the early slate today that starts at 3:35 pm EST. Below are my picks for Wednesday afternoon, May 13th, 2015. Good Luck!
Sonny Gray (OAK) home vs. BOS for $9200: The As young right-hander (4-0, 1.65 ERA 1.00 WHIP and 23.7 FPPG) continues to have a sensational season and comes of another dominating performance: 24.7 FP with 9 K and 1 RA in 6 IP on the road in SEA at $9800. Gray has had success in 19 career day starts, going 10-5 with a 3.08 ERA. He faces the Red Sox who hit a pedestrian .245 BA vs. RHP, which is 18th in ML. Plus, facing Boston, Gray’s salary is down $300 from last week to $9500. While his ownership will be high, Gray is a must pick as the As are a -145 favorite and other SP options are much riskier.

John Lackey (STL) at CLE for $8200: The veteran right-hander is off to a good start for the Redbirds, going 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 16.1 FFPG. Lackey is coming off a scintillating performance against the Cubs last time out, picking up the win and striking out 10 while only allowing 6 H/BB in 7 1/3 IP. He faces the 11-20 Indians who are 18th in runs scored and only 5-11 at home. His mound opponent is returning AL Cy Young winner Corey Kluber, which may account for why the Indians are a slight favorite, but the 0-5 Kluber (5.04 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) has had his share of problems and the 23-9 Cardinals (best record in baseball) are much improved on offense (10th in runs scored) this year. At this price, Lackey can easily get you 20 FP and maybe even much more.
Stay Away: Gio Gonzalez (WAS) at ARZ for $8700. Gonzalez is pitching well of late and comes in with a 3-2 record and a 3.62 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 18.4 FPPG. However, he faces a Diamondback team which scores 4.8 rpg (4th in ML) and hits lefties at a .278 rate which is 5th in the majors. And as we know, Chase Field is not pitcher friendly, with a 1.15 park factor runs in 2015. Gio could be decent and the Nats could win here, but the potential for a bad outing is too much to warrant spending this money.
