Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitchers: Studs, Duds, and Sleepers-May 13, 2015
Fantasy baseball continues through the middle of this week with a full 30-team schedule for today starting with a pair of getaway games out West. At 3:35 the Red Sox and A’s wrap up their series in Oakland while the D-Backs and Nationals get underway at 3:40. Make sure to get any roster moves done early if you need to get your lineup set by first pitch of the first game today. To help you get the right fantasy baseball starting pitchers in place, check out my studs, duds, and sleepers listed on the following slides.

On this slide, there are three studs who will cost you big money in daily fantasy baseball, but who should be able to deliver based on matchup and current form. On the next slide, you’ll find three options I’d recommend by-passing today, and on the final slide of this post you’ll find my favorite three sleepers starting pitchers for today. If you are planning to hit the waiver wire in search of streaming starting pitcher options, those three sleepers are a great place to start.
Each morning on FanSided, we’ve been featuring the top ten batter vs pitcher matchups to know for the day as well as taking a quick look at some of the most important fantasy baseball starting pitchers. Let’s jump right in to a quick breakdown of today’s fantasy baseball starting pitchers:
3 Starting Pitcher Studs
1. Sonny Gray-Oakland Athletics: Gray has been outstanding for the A’s and is in a great matchup against the Red Sox struggling offense. Gray has only allowed more than one run twice this year compiling a 1.65 ERA in his seven starts and picking up 44 strikeouts in 49 innings. He isn’t as well-known as some other Ace’s, but he definitely is pitching like one and deserves consideration if your format allows you to use pitchers from this afternoon.
2. Matt Harvey-New York Mets: Harvey has also been rolling right along despite picking up his first loss of the season in his last outing against the Phillies. Harvey pitched decently in the game, allowing three runs in six innings, but the Mets didn’t get him any run support and ended up losing 3-1 to Philadelphia. Even with that loss, Harvey’s 5-1 record is still solid and his 0.96 WHIP shows just how dominant he has been. As he takes on the Cubs tonight, Harvey is a big name who should put up big production tonight.
3. Francisco Liriano-Pittsburgh Pirates: Liriano comes into his start tonight only 1-2, but his record doesn’t indicate how well he has pitched. He was roughed up a little by St. Louis in his last start, but he has excellent numbers against the Phillies and should bounce back tonight. The players on the Phillies roster are a combined 9-69 (.130) in their career against Liriano with 31 strikeouts, so he should be set up to shine tonight.
