Kevin Hayes scored to tie up Game 7 between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals.

With roughly 10 seconds remaining on the New York Rangers‘ second power play of the second period, Kevin Hayes scored his second goal of the 2015 postseason.

After being mostly dominated in the first period at home against the Washington Capitals, including seeing hated Capitals captain and superstar Alex Ovechkin score the game’s first goal, the Rangers answered resoundingly in the second stanza.

Prior to Hayes’ goal, the Rangers had not allowed a Capitals second period shot on goal, and had five of their own. They “carried the play” in the early part of the second period.

Hayes’ goal which resulted from a Mike Green cross-checking penalty and subsequent power play capped a dominating start to the period for the home team.

To finally get a puck passed Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby, the Rangers dumped the puck into the zone, executed in chasing down, while flipping the puck back to the top of the zone, only to see a perfect pass make its way to Hayes as he cut toward the net.

It was like in basketball a pass down into the post, only to see the post player throw it back out and then have a back cut result in a layup off the pass from the wing.

It was a thing of beauty. And it got the Rangers even with the Capitals through a half of regulation gone by.
