We have already seen our fair share of successes and disappointments through five weeks of the MLB season. Who will finish the month of May strong?

We are now, finally, starting to venture into that territory of substance. That particular area of the Major League Baseball season which allows all of us to realistically analyze what we’ve seen so far.

Listen, I’m no mathematician, but playing 10 of 162 tells us squat.

Now that we’re at the 20 percent mark of this grueling march towards October, the contenders and posers start revealing themselves.

We’ve seen major surprises from both the New York Mets and Yankees. Up and coming squads like the Minnesota Twins and Houston Astros have surprisingly held their own. And clubs like the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers are doing exactly what we thought they’d do.

And oh yeah, the Kansas City Royals have made it their purpose in life to live by the mantra of “I told you so,” while they beam and fight everybody along the way.

Hey, if the “us against the world” philosophy works so well for Ned Yost’s crew, god bless them.

Today, though, we look at a few teams who are in a position to finish the month of May on a strong note. Candidates can include leading the division, toiling with mediocrity, or desperately dwelling in the cellar.

Whether it’s strength of schedule, momentum, or even welcoming back a few guys from the Disabled List, there are a handful of squads ready to take off.

Here are five teams who are primed for a strong finish to May:
