RB Steven Jackson only wants to play for a contender
By Mike Dyce
Free agent running back Steven Jackson only wants to join a team that will contend during the 2015 season.
When running back Steven Jackson was finally able to get out of St. Louis he thought he was going to a team that would contend for titles in Atlanta with the Falcons. That didn’t work out for Jackson, the Falcons struggling during his brief tenure with the club and now Jackson is a free agent again.
As he looks for anew team, he is only going to consider a team that will give him a chance to content.
“I don’t want to go to a team that is rebuilding and needs me to come on and teach guys how to be professional,” Jackson said, via ESPN. “I’ve done that. I’ve been more than vocal about wanting to help young guys, but at some point I have to be a little selfish. I want to be part of a winning team because when I do hang up my cleats, I can see a lot of people holding that over my head when a lot of it was out of my control.”
As we previously pointed out, that didn’t work out with the Atlanta Falcons. He thought he was going to a team that was in the hunt for a Super Bowl appearance and instead were a cog in the wheel that was the NFC South’s collapse over the past couple of seasons.
His best bet might be trying to play second fiddle to someone on a proven contender. Perhaps New England, Indianapolis, or Denver?
He might want to consider Dallas who seem to be going with a running back committee approach to replace the production of DeMarco Murray.
“I have all the things I’ve accomplished personally, but I’ve still never been on a team that won more than eight games. That would be definitely one of the things that I’m looking for is that opportunity in my next chapter.”
