The Washington Post’s sports section headlined the dramatic finish to the Washington Wizards season in all of it’s pain and glory.

The Wizards were down by three in the closing seconds of Game 6 against the Atlanta Hawks. They could tie, send the game into overtime and possibly extend the series, or they could miss and go home. Really, the Wiz had one option: they had to turn to The Truth. They had to turn to Paul Pierce.

-You want answers?
-I WANT THE TRUTH!

You can’t HANDLE the Truth!

(Ugh, I’m so sorry)

Apparently, the Atlanta Hawks could handle the truth; the shot was disallowed after the replay showed that Pierce released the ball 0.1 seconds after the buzzer. The game was over. The series was over. The Truth was denied.

The Washington Post encapsulated the agony and the ecstasy of the Wizards playoff run.

Regardless of whether or not the shot was released on time, this series clearly demonstrated how incredible Paul Pierce has been in this series. His Game 3 buzzer beater extended the series for the Wizards in the absence of John Wall.

Then in Game 5, Pierce almost gave the Wiz the series lead with what seemed like a game-winning three …

… only to have Al Horford put the Hawks on top in the closing seconds.

This second round series has created a career’s bounty of clutch moments in a career that doesn’t need more. But that won;t be any comfort to Wizards fans who will watch the Hawks take on a stumbling Cavaliers team in the Eastern Conference Finals.
