3 Starting Pitcher Stay-Aways

1. Cole Hamels-Philadelphia Phillies: While Hamels is the Phillies Ace and has the potential to be one of the useful fantasy baseball starting pitchers today, he carries a lot of risk as he faces the Rockies at Coors Field.  Camels has been up and down this season and is coming off of two solid outings in a row. There is unquestionable upside, but too much risk for the price in my opinion.  If you own Hamels in season-long leagues, go ahead and play him, but I’d avoid him for daily use unless you can get him on the cheap.

2. Dan Haren-Miami Marlins: Haren and the Fish host the D-Backs from Arizona this week which could mean a long night for Haren.  Many of the Snakes batters have great career numbers against Haren, and there is potential for this to turn into quite the slugfest.  Haren allowed six runs on 11 hits in his last start which came against the  Dodgers, so he’s a very shaky play for tonight despite his decent 3.70 ERA.

3. Drew Pomeranz-Oakland Athletics: Pomeranz looked exceptional in his last start holding the Red Sox to just two runs (one earned) in seven innings to improve to 2-3 on the season.  He was coming off a brutal stretch before that start in which he had allowed at least three earned runs in five straight starts including two against Houston.  He’ll face the Astros again tonight, so I’d stay away for at least one more outing before trusting Pomeranz on my team.
