Actor Samuel L. Jackson is slated to appear in the remake of 1958 horror film ‘The Blob’.

In a land filled with reboots and remakes, it is only the most original ones that revitalize their original that find success (who are we kidding? People will pay to see anything … ). Which is why movie goers should not be surprised to hear that director Simon West (Con Air, The Expendables 2) is set to helm a remake of the 1958 classic The Blob.

More news has recently been announced regarding the remake: Samuel L. Jackson will reportedly join the cast. Those who have seen Jackson’s work in thrillers such as Snakes on a Plane or Deep Blue Sea will know that he will probably play a character who will take no crap from any stinking alien blob creature.

As of the time this is being written, Jackson is the only member of the cast to be … well, cast. The original 1958 film tells the story of a small Pennsylvania town that is plagued by a huge amorphous alien blob that came from a meteorite. It lands and is cared for by two kids who find it and eventually learns a lesson in love and friendship.

Just kidding. It eats a bunch of people and gets bigger every time it consumes someone.

Jackson is slated to play a biochemistry professor who attempts to stop the creature. Just add a Desert Eagle and a pair of sunglasses to that description and you have something I’ll go see.

According to West, he intends to take the original idea of the blob and adapt it to fit a more scientific concept.

From ScreenCrush:

"My version of The Blob’s going to be more sci-fi….The blob itself will be more sophisticated, more along the lines of Alien and Predator and things like that – much more science-based, the way Jurassic Park made you believe you could bring back dinosaurs with a bit of DNA from a mosquito. This will be much more explained on where the blob comes from and how it works. It’ll be a much more sophisticated creature – because it is a monster movie rather than a horror in that sense."

Looking forward to it with much trepidation. But then again, if they could pull off an awesome Mad Max reboot, why not this franchise too?
