Though it was cancelled by FOX, ‘The Mindy Project’ has been picked up by Hulu.

Fans of The Mindy Project were plenty dismayed to learn that Mindy Kaling’s sitcom had been cancelled by FOX after a mere three seasons. However, they should be happy to learn that The Mindy Project will be back on air … well, it will be back. Internet streaming giant Hulu has picked up the show for season four.

The season will feature 26 brand new episodes of the the show and will be its largest season as of now.

Hulu’s senior VP spoke to reporters about the move.

From Mashable:

"“Mindy has been a beloved member of the Hulu family, so this deal is a natural extension of our relationship,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu’s senior vice president and head of content, in a statement. “With so many of her fans already catching up and tuning in to the series on Hulu, we know her millions of fans will be eager to find out what Mindy has in store for the next chapter.”"

Despite the show’s critical acclaim, Fox did not choose to renew it for another season. It did choose to pick up The Simpsons, however, despite the voice actor that voices half of their characters quit the show.

Hulu has reportedly said that The Mindy Project has been a “top show” on their site for years now. It has “consistently remained popular” with Hulu’s user base.

No date has been announced as of yet for when the show will premiere but fans will most likely not have to wait for long.

According to Mashable, the streaming site will have the option to pick up more seasons after they see how it does initially.

From Mashable:

"No date has been set for the show’s Hulu debut, and a source tells Mashable the details of the show’s roll-out are still being determined.“I am thrilled The Mindy Project has found a new home on Hulu, where so many of our fans are already watching the show. It’s such an exciting place to be,” Kaling said in a statement."

Ultimately, the viewers win with this decision. With more and more original programming leaving television and coming to internet (see The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) you can bet your bottom dollar that this only means more original programming with more creative freedom to the show’s creators.

Hulu has also got ahold of rights to the show’s earlier seasons as well, so you can check the series out for yourself right on their site!
