Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady top quarterbacks, per NFL experts
During the NFL offseason, things can get a bit stale. This is why you will see tons of lists, power rankings, etc. It’s something to create a little bit of conversation, and despite people constantly complaining about them, it always does.
Over at NFL.com, Dave Dameshek, Elliot Harrison and Bucky Brooks were all tasked to project their top 10 quarterbacks in the 2015 season. Let’s take a look at what these three analysts are saying, and discuss what’s been said.
Bucky Brooks
1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
2. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
3. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
4. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
5. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
6. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
7. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
8. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
9. Eli Manning, New York Giants
10. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos
The most shocking thing on this list is the order of Manning’s. It’s easy to see Peyton is no longer who he once was, but Eli ranked higher? Also, where are Matthew Stafford and Joe Flacco? Stafford has a 5,000-yard season under his belt and Flacco won a Super Bowl. Tough to argue with much else, though.
Dave Dameshek
1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
2. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
3. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
4. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
5. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
6. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
7. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers
8. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
9. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos
10. Eli Manning, New York Giants
Newton being ranked that high is outrageous, especially without Romo on the list. Newton struggles to garner any kind of consistency and leads an offense that always bogs down when it can’t run well. Romo’s offense and talents are elite. Roethlisberger might be a touch high, but Big Ben can wing it, so you’ll get no argument here. Again, Stafford and Flacco get left off the list.
Elliot Harrison
1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
2. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
3. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
4. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
5. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
6. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
7. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
8. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos9. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
10. Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs
Smith making an appearance is a bit of a stunner. Smith has never thrown for 3,500 yards in a season, although the Chiefs have surrounded him with great talent. Overall, this list seems pretty solid. Maybe some would want Luck a bit higher, but that’s about it.
